This is the first actual blues record in the collection. Everything that came close was blues-adjacent soul — the Atlantic Ray Charles, the Aretha, the El Mocambo side of Love You Live. Taj Mahal is the real thing: country blues, banjo and National steel alongside a band, and this record includes the solo acoustic material recorded in Hawaii.
Bearing on the wish list: the blues gap that justified Muddy Waters Folk Singer, John Lee Hooker and The Bosses is no longer empty. Those all still stand on their merits, but not as gap-filling.
