Jackson and Richie wrote it, and this is the only record here where those two lines converge: Thriller, Triumph and the Jackson 5 Third Album on one side, both Richie solo albums on the other.
To us the famine was as far away as it was to people in the USA. We heard more about it from the BBC than from local accounts. Famine is largely man-made, and that one was a political decision more than a drought. The reporting that told me what was happening a few hundred miles away is the same reporting that set Band Aid and then this record in motion.
